  • 3 new and fully-functioning labs were established in Fergana, Samarkand and     Nukus
  • The lab in the Haemophilia Centre in Tashkent was upgraded
  • 8 training sessions were organised, training more than 200 healthcare     professionals
  • The number of diagnosed patients increased from 1,400 to 1,621 across the     country and the registry was updated accordingly
  • 89 people with haemophilia and their families attended educational sessions
  • More than 40 manuals and publications were written on laboratory science,     patient care, parental guidance, and more

"The new laboratories will provide us with the means to screen and diagnose haemophilia patients.  Together with the better trained workforce in this region, these mean we won’t have to constantly refer our patients to Tashkent, "  Dr Mamadjanov, Multiprofile Medical Centre in Fergana.

"At the moment haemophilia care is primarily delivered at the reference centre in Tashkent, which was strengthened through the first NNHF project.  We now want other centres to be able to deliver specialist haemophilia care so that fewer patients have to travel to Tashkent – which can involve long journeys and high costs for the patients’ families if they need to stay overnight or longer, " Dr Azoda Achilova, project team member.
