Strengthening physiotherapy in multi-disciplinary care

pictureSeeing how physiotherapy is included in the host institutions’ comprehensive care scheme provides ideas for duplication in Brazil.

In April 2010, Janaina Bosso J. Silva, Physiotherapist, MSc. from the hospital at the state university of Campinas in Brazil worked in the Haemophilia and Thrombosis Center Angelo Bianchi Bonomi in Italy, known for its multidisciplinary approach to care.

“Upon return, my first goal is to provide similar treatment conditions for all our patients, as the ones I saw in Italy. With this in mind, we have to educate and motivate a group of physiotherapists for the treatment of haemophilia patients,” says Janaina.
Armed with this purpose, Janaina is now sharing what she learned to build a physiotherapy care network with other professionals that are taking part in the second NNHF project in Brazil.

“I believe this is the best way to disseminate the idea. I would like for us to take advantage of the lessons learned as we proceed to develop the treatment protocol and evaluation tool, which we will use in the NNHF project Brazil II, Janaina says.

“I hope for a new generation of haemophilia patients with a new generation of physiotherapists that are more self-assured in using the appropriate techniques available,” she says.
