Healthcare professionals workshop proves a success

During a 3-day workshop, 35 healthcare professionals from 6 hospitals from across Mexico learned more about haemophilia, its clinical manifestations, musculoskeletal complications and more which will enable them to offer better care to the patients in their regions.

Tailored to participants' needs

pictureThe medical team worked hard to ensure the 21 sessions were tailored to the participants’ needs, which included haematologists, orthopaedists, physiatrists, psychologists, general practitioners, nurses and social workers.  The workshop, organised by Dr Bernáldez Ríos and Dr María del Carmen Rodríguez Zepeda, took place at the end of August as part of NNHF’s one year project in the country.

In preparation for the training, the team from Hospital Siglo XXI developed five manuals, each focusing on a different specialty in multi-disciplinary care.  In addition, a website – www.hemopediatria.org.mx was set up to provide information for HCPs as well as patients and their families.

“These manuals and the website are great tools that make it easier for me to pass on my learning to my team.” Course participant, Cuernavaca
Follow-up from the workshop will include visits to the participating hospitals in the coming months, to ensure learning is being properly implemented.
