Christine A Lee



Christine A Lee is Emeritus Professor of Haemophilia, University of London. She was director of the Royal Free Haemophilia Centre until her retirement from clinical work in 2005. Educated at the University of Oxford, Professor Lee was the first woman to be awarded a clinical scholarship by the University of Oxford Medical College.

After working for five years at various teaching hospitals in London, Professor Lee specialized in haematology and became interested in haemophilia while working at St. George’s Hospital. She joined the Royal Free Hospital in 1983, was appointed consultant in 1997 and director of the Haemophilia Centre and Haemostasis Unit in 1991. In 1996, Professor Lee was awarded a DSc (Med) by the University of London for her work on the side effects of treatment. Professor Lee was awarded a personal chair in 1997.

Professor Lee has published more than 300 scientific papers on the side effects of treatment, particularly hepatitis and HIV. In 1995, she founded the international journal 'Haemophilia', which she continues to co-edit.

Professor Lee is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP) and Pathologists (FRCPath). Professor Lee was awarded an honorary Fellowship of the Royal college of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRCOG) in 2010 in recognition of her work for women with inherited bleeding disorders.
